Food Safety Information from Your Michigan Apple Packer, Jack Brown Produce


At Jack Brown Produce, we take great pride in the fact that our Apple Ridge brand meets the highest level of food safety. With food safety of paramount important, one of our top priorities is ensuring that all of the apples that are grown, picked, and shipped through Jack Brown Produce meet, or exceed, the most stringent United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) standards.

In order to make sure the apples you buy are safe to handle and consume, we conduct audits on a regular basis in order to monitor water, soil, fertilizer, pest control methods, harvest practices, and security and food safety procedures.

Each year, Jack Brown Produce passes the federal Good Handling Procedures (GHP) audit. This audit involves having our policies, procedures, and traceability thoroughly inspected. In addition to the certification that comes with passing the GHP audit, our Michigan apple packers and growers, are required to pass an additional GHP audit.

Jack Brown Produce places significant important on the safe use of pesticides with all of our independent growers being certified by the Michigan Department of Agriculture in order to purchase them. Also, because state and federal laws place regulations on the use of these pesticides, of our growers meet the standards that are set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are regularly inspected by the Michigan Department of Agriculture.
